Apple Inc. has been stepping on toes lately. And one of them is the Ukrainian government. It appeared that after a Weather and Map apps update made by some Apple users in Russia. The Crimean Peninsula was referred to as part of Russia in the Maps app. This certainly meant that the Apple Inc is in support of the Russian politicians who have demanded the peninsula to be referred to as part of Russia.

It has been noted that Crimea’s nationality  has been a sensitive topic for Russia and Ukraine ever since Russian troops seized the region. And annexed it after a referendum that Kiev and some other parts in Ukraine say was illegal.

Furthermore, some Reuters reporters in Moscow searched for “Simferopol” which is the Crimean capital on the Apple’s Maps app on Wednesday. And found out that it was displayed as “Simferopol, Crimea Russia.” While some Apple users in Ukraine searched for Crimea and discovered that the region was identified in either of the countries.

It seems that the Apple Inc is playing a fast one on both countries. In addition to this, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Vadym Prystaiko expressed how he felt in a tweet. He says “Imagine you’re crying out that your design and ideas, years of work and piece of your heart are stolen by your worst enemy.  But then somebody ignorant doesn’t give a damn about your pain ”

“That’s how it feels when you call Crimea a Russian land.”

The EU and United States do not recognize Crimea as Russian and have imposed sanctions against the peninsula and individuals they accuse of violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

According to a report on the State Duma website, Piskaryov said: “Apple has fulfilled its obligations and brought the programs on its devices in line with the requirements of Russian law.”
